My Crocodile Does Not Bite by Joe Kulka

I am honestly not a fan of this book and I will tell you why.

The story is about a little boy and his pet crocodile, which he brings to school because it is "Bring Your Pet to School Day".  Cindy Lou does not like the crocodile and thinks her poodle is best.  She becomes increasingly jealous as no one listens to her that a crocodile will bite because the crocodile is well-trained and does lots of tricks.  Everyone is most impressed by the crocodile, even the principal.  Cindy Lou hates this so she knocks the crocodile off his unicycle. Then Cindy Lou becomes so jealous she throws a ball for her poodle to fetch.  But it goes in the crocodile's mouth and when the poodle runs after it, the crocodile swallows her whole.  Cindy Lou goes over to get her poodle back and the crocodile swallows her whole.  The little boy says, "See?  My crocodile doesn't bite. He swallows his food whole."  Everyone is very impressed and he gets 1st place.  The End.

Um, I understand that the author is giving Cindy Lou a big ol' swipe of karma for being a jealous, hateful little girl.  However, is being swallowed by a crocodile justifiable?  I just don't think the lesson is going to be received by children.  All they will understand is that a crocodile ate a dog and a little girl and then was rewarded for doing so.

I don't recommend this book but if you try it, let me know what you think.
