The Gingerbread Man: Loose in the School by Laura Murray, Illustrated by Mike Lowery

“Fresh out of the oven, the Gingerbread Man is ready for school.  But when recess arrives, the class who baked him leaves him behind!  Luckily, he’s one smart cookie and takes off after them.  With some help he finds his way back to his class and discovers that they have been searching for him, too.”

This is a sinfully sweet re-telling of the Gingerbread Man fairy tale features fun rhymes and adorable, if simple, illustrations.  I think this could quickly become a read-aloud favorite.  The book includes a pull out poster in the back.

Brooks loves this book! I've never read it, but his kindergarten teacher read it to the class on the first day of school, then led the children on a hunt for the gingerbread boy as a way to familiarize them with the school. That's all I heard about for the first week! He has the same teacher this year, as he's part of a K/1st grade combo class, so he got to do the hunt again this year, and it was just as fun for him.

Awesome! I bet that hunt was a lot of fun! I would have loved to do that in my own classroom.
